Domaine de la Chappe
Domaine de la Chappe: Innovation and Tradition in Northern Burgundy The Domaine de la Chappe, located in Tonnerre in Northern Burgundy, is a dynamic and diversified agricultural reality, managed by Vincent Thomas. With a total area of 6 hectares, 2.5 of which are dedicated to viticulture, the estate is a benchmark for natural viticulture in the region. Natural Viticulture and Potential of the Tonnerre AOC The Domaine de la Chappe is one of the few wineries in the area to practise natural viticulture, contributing to making the Tonnerre AOC, created in 2006, an emerging area with great winemaking potential. Located on a hill to the west of Tonnerre, the vineyard benefits from a unique terroir, enhanced through organic practices. Management and Philosophy of Vincent Thomas Vincent has been converting the family vineyard to organic farming since 2003, also expanding his business through the purchase of organic grapes from other growers. The varieties grown include mainly Aligoté and Chardonnay. Vincent collaborates with other organic producers to expand his offer, which varies from year to year. Agricultural diversification In addition to wine production, the estate grows cereals and raises pigs, following a family tradition of agricultural diversification. Vincent produces no less than 12 cuvées, many of which are sulphite-free. Of these, the Pinot Noir 'Joseph 2014' is particularly renowned. Each cuvée reflects the different appellations and terroirs, with original and meaningful labels. Collaboration and Sustainability Vincent collaborates with young growers such as Adrien Roux for Chablis and Petit Chablis, demonstrating his commitment to sustainability. The constant search for high quality organic grapes is a challenge, but also a testimony to Vincent's dedication to quality and innovation. Conclusion Vincent Thomas' Domaine de la Chappe is a shining example of innovation and tradition in northern Burgundy. With sustainable management, a wide range of wines and a passion for excellence, Vincent is helping to make the Tonnerre AOC known and appreciated locally and internationally. Discover the fresh, round and floral wines of Domaine de la Chappe, the symbol of a more accessible and enjoyable Burgundy.
