Obtained 100% from Cabernet Franc grapes, a vine native to the Bordeaux area introduced into Collio at the end of the 19th century, with very vigorous vegetation, where it immediately proved to be very resistant to rain and bad weather in spring and autumn.
The grapes used to make this wine are grown in the vineyards of Zavognza and Bukova, at altitudes ranging from 150 to 180 metres above sea level. Vinification The grapes are harvested at a late stage. They are then macerated for about twenty days until the sugars are exhausted, punching down by hand, in order to best extract all the substances that the skins jealously guard. The wine thus obtained is then kept until bottling, which normally takes place in the following summer or autumn. Colour The colour is deep ruby with flashes of youthful violet tones. Nose The nose, fresh and immediate, opens with floral aromas and continues with classic cabernet franc notes of sweet liquorice and red pepper. Palate The palate offers a definite and precise hint of blackberry followed by a light, dry and tannic finish. Serving temperature Serve between 16 and 20° C, as this is how all its characteristics can be grasped. Pairing A wine for cold meats, grand cuisine, roast white and red meats, noble poultry, game and mature cheeses.
Gradis'ciutta was born when Robert Princic, having finished his studies in Oenology and Viticulture in Conegliano, decided at the age of 20 in 1997 to give a name to the work on the land that his family had carried on for generations. First his grandfather, then his father, had bought some land to produce grapes that they then sold to third parties: the turning point came when Robert decided to create his own brand to tell of his passion for the land and wine. The name chosen by Robert, Gradis'ciutta, is taken from the name of the locality in the heart of Collio that has been generous with excellent grapes for centuries and is closely linked to the history of his family: a clear declaration of attachment to the land, family identity and passion for wine-growing. All these characteristics bind together in a double knot and are the basis of all the company's activities. Today, thanks to the work of the entire family, "Gradis'ciutta" has grown to 25 hectares under vine, out of a total of 35, in the municipalities of San Floriano del Collio, Gorizia, Capriva del Friuli and Dolegna del Collio. This choice is not random; on the contrary, given the peculiarities of the territory, it is based on the desire to fully express the characteristics of Collio and its hills. Constantly supported by his tireless parents, Robert has grown the business, obtaining awards for his wines and personal recognition, without ever forgetting the right balance in the relationship between man and nature. A philosophy that is reflected in the character of the wines and in his approach to others. The current headquarters of Gradis'ciutta is in Giasbana, a locality in San Floriano del Collio, where a winery has been built that represents the culmination of many years of work.
