Bodegas El Paraguas is the project of Marcial Pita and Felicísimo Pereira, both linked to the world of wine since they were very young, in their native Galicia, in the DO. Ribeiro. Felicísimo Pereira, a native of Ribadavia, belongs to the fourth generation of his family to make a living from the world of wine and currently runs one of the most outstanding wine consultancies on the national scene, providing oenological advice to important firms in the most renowned Galician production areas, such as Rías Baixas, Ribeiro and Ribeira Sacra. He is possibly the best connoisseur of the enormous wine-growing heritage hidden in Ribeiro. Named in 2011 with the Gallaecia distinction as Best Winemaker in Galicia, he is the author of some of the most important wines produced in Galicia. Marcial Pita, born in Ferrol, is a renowned journalist specialising in wine and gastronomy who collaborates with some of the most prestigious publications in Spain, and has also authored several books specialising in wine. He has been linked to the world of wine since he was 16 years old, when he began to collaborate in the warehouse of the wine club Vinoselección preparing orders. His facet as a winemaker began with a carefully designed project in 2006, which elevated him to the national wine elite, thanks to his red wine El Linze. After several vintages consolidating his success as a winemaker, since 2011, all his efforts as a winemaker are focused on Bodegas El Paraguas, in his homeland, Galicia. In 2017, he received the greatest recognition from his parish, Esmelle, when he was named town crier of the Romaría Castrexa for his applauded professional work at Bodegas El Paraguas. Currently, he is one of the most important figures of the new Galician wine. Since 2015, Bodegas El Paraguas has been producing its wines in a new winemaking facility in the municipality of Cenlle, in the Avia Valley (Ourense). Previously, they made their wines in the family garage in Pereira, in the heart of the old town of Ribadavia. They took advantage of the move to change the image of their wines, adapting them to the needs of the market. The new winery is perfectly equipped for the production of their wines and equipped with the latest technologies at the service of the magic wand of Felicísimo Pereira, technical director of Bodegas El Paraguas. In spite of producing very limited productions of its wines, Bodegas El Paraguas has, practically, a made-to-measure container for the vinification of each grape variety of each plot it oversees. Treixadura, Albariño and Godello are treated differently and independently, depending on the origin of the grapes and, above all, on the nature of each harvest. For this purpose, they have stainless steel tanks and 600 and 500 litre French oak barrels with temperature control. They are committed to vinifications that are not very interventionist, so that the wines reflect the terroir where they come from.
