Domaine des Trottières
Domaine des Trottières, an exceptional terroir in the heart of the Loire Valley.
Founded in 1890, the Domaine des Trottières is one of the jewels in the crown of Anjou and the Layon Valley. With 115 hectares of vineyards, all classified as AOC, we produce 9 AOC wines: Anjou Blanc, Coteaux du Layon, Bonnezeaux, Crémant de Loire, Rosé de Loire, Rosé d’Anjou, Cabernet d’Anjou, Anjou Rouge and Anjou-Villages.
Recognised expertise, respect for tradition and continuous awards, combined with the quality of the terroir, are expressed in authentic wines of great finesse.
A member of the Union of Independent Winegrowers of Anjou and Saumur, and a member of the Vignerons Lauréats club at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris, the production techniques meet the requirements of sustainable agriculture, with the Terra Vitis and HVE (High Environmental Value) labels…
Owned by the Lamotte family since 1985, this ancient wine estate, long managed by the Gourdon family, was mainly cultivated with Chenin grapes before the arrival of phylloxera, which destroyed almost all European vineyards at the end of the 19th century. Most of the production was devoted to white wines.
The renewal of the vineyards, made compulsory by the planting of certified grafted seedlings, was an opportunity to diversify the grape varieties: Gamay, Grolleau and Pineau d’Aunis made their appearance, which were to become the basis for rosés (Rosé de Loire (dry), Rosé d’Anjou). More recently, the emphasis has been on planting Cabernet varieties.
The oldest wine cellar, built around 1920, was particularly efficient, with glass vats and a system of transporting the harvest by lifts powered by a huge 1-piston engine.
A modern wine cellar was added in 1990.
