Romano Levi
Romano levi (1928 – 2008) the ‘Grappaiol’ Angelico, as L. Veronelli called him, started running the distillery, founded by his father Serafino in 1925, at the age of 17, with the same distillation plant and the same, artisanal, production process. He became the world’s most famous ‘grappa maker’ not only for his grappa but also for his hand-drawn labels. Countless publications and exhibitions have been dedicated to his main subject, the ‘Wild Woman’, in Italy and abroad.
The Distillery, located in Neive, one of the most enchanting villages in the Langhe, recently declared a World Heritage Site, is now a fully functioning museum. It produces, in small quantities, a unique grappa. thanks to the last still with direct fire existing in Italy. The traditional production process and the long ageing process produce a ‘historic’ grappa with an intense and inimitable taste.
